Heartwood Centre for Women

The Heartwood Centre for Women is a voluntary residential treatment program where employees and residents work together to create a wholesome, therapeutic environment. We provide trauma-informed treatment for substance dependency and other concurrent disorders. Heartwood empowers women (including transgendered women) to collaborate with their treatment team to develop a client-centred treatment plan.

The Heartwood Team includes many professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, counsellors, dietitians, social workers, recreational therapists, expressive art therapists, yoga practitioners, acupuncturists, and a First Nations elder. Some of the treatment approaches include but are not limited to trauma-specific counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, psycho-education, skill development, pharmacotherapy, and twelve-step programs and peer support.
