We work with partners throughout British Columbia to offer 50 specialized addiction treatment beds to adults who need help with severe substance use. These beds are available only by referral from a health care professional.

You can expect structured, supportive treatment for severe substance use addiction, as well as broad support for any mental health challenges you have. The programs in both facilities are approximately three months long, and you will receive after-care support for up to a year following treatment.
Available services at Elizabeth Fry Greater Vancouver or the Phoenix Society include the following:
- Assessment
- Stabilization
- Treatment
- Education about mental illness and substance use, including harm reduction education
- Family programs
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Mindfulness skills
- Life skills development
- Medication therapy
- 12-Step and Smart Recovery programs
- Peer support
The staff team includes counsellors, Indigenous Elders, therapists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians.
If you are 19 or older and have a substance addiction, have experienced several relapses, and your treatment needs for substance use or addiction are more than what your local community health resources or health authority can offer, you can apply for treatment at Elizabeth Fry Greater Vancouver (Abbotsford location) or the Phoenix Society.
While mental health support will be provided, the provincial beds at Elizabeth Fry Greater Vancouver and Phoenix Society are not designed for mental health diagnosis. Treatment is voluntary.
To receive treatment through the provincial beds at Elizabeth Fry Greater Vancouver or Phoenix Society, you need a referral from a health care professional.
BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services provides leadership, expertise, and oversight to a number of specialized provincial programs that are delivered on a contract basis.
