Metacognitive Training

Metacognitive training (MCT) is a program that helps people living with psychosis become more aware of the thinking patterns or biases that may contribute to, or maintain, their psychosis.

The program was developed by Dr. Steffen Moritz (University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany) and Dr. Todd Woodward (University of British Columbia) on the basis of research findings in the field of cognitive neuropsychiatry on schizophrenia and psychosis.

MCT works by helping participants to become more attuned to and aware of the types of thinking patterns that can lead to psychosis. By providing skills to counter these potentially problematic thought patterns, MCT can help reduce symptoms such as paranoia.
