Research summer studentships
Summer studentships are research opportunities for undergraduate students and undergraduate medical students. They allow you to gain hands-on research experience focused on improving mental health and substance use outcomes for British Columbians.
We accept applications for summer studentships until the second Friday in March. Note that we prioritize research that advances the understanding and care of:
- People with mental health and substance use issues
- People who are in custody
- People who have been found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder
Eligibility
- Current undergraduate student or medical student registered at a recognized university
- Undergraduate students graduating in spring/summer can apply if they are a registered student at the time they apply
- Primary supervisor is a BCMHSUS researcher. The supervisor’s area of research is about improving the mental health and well-being of British Columbians
- Out-of-province and international applicants are welcome to apply. You will need:
- The proper work/student permit
- A social insurance number from Service Canada
Funding
Funding supports an 8- to 12-week research period between May and August. Students will receive a stipend, which the supervising BCMHSUS investigator may supplement in amount or duration if resources allow.
We expect students to participate actively in their research roles. They should not hold other positions that conflict with their studentship commitments. We will determine specific working hours in consultation with the research supervisor.
